A website for Jews struggling to maintain their moral purity in today’s world

With the advance of technology and the ease of availability and privacy that the internet provides, it has become a daily struggle for many religious Jews to remain Erlich (morally and ethically upright) even in their own homes. Jewish Leaders, Rabbis and Experts worldwide, are beginning to speak out about this serious problem more and more.

Why is Sexual purity so important in Judaism? Our sages called Shmiras Habris"Yesod", meaning “Foundation”. The foundation of a building is “underground” and no one sees it, yet it holds up the entire building! Shmiras Habris is the hidden part of a Jew, it’s the real you. If the foundation of a Jew is weak, his whole spiritual structure is fragile and in grave danger of collapse.
At guardureyes.com we are finally joining together, for ourselves and for all future generations, to strengthen the foundations of our people!

There is a lot of material out there on the subject of guarding the eyes and the Bris, but sometimes “too much” is overwhelming.
A little bit each day is just right, to be able to read, digest and apply it to our lives.

The Image of Hashem

When Shem and Yefet covered up their father’s nakedness, they held a blanket and walked backwards so as not to see him. They could have walked towards him and kept their eyes lowered. Why did they feel it necessary to walk backwards?
Since the image of Hashem is etched upon the human countenance, simply exposing the face to improper sights is spiritually harmful!
Therefore, they walked backwards to protect their souls. (The Alshich)

It is not impossible

Many people who were raised in Western Society steeped in the Klipot, believe that it is impossible to be Shomer Habris. This is not true. There are thousands upon thousands of people in Eretz Yisroel and throughout the world that are Shomer Habris, amongst them many that are single and not married.

For those that claim that if a person never fell into these Klipot it is possible, but one who has unfortunately stumbled has no way of picking himself up, this is also not true. There are many Balei Teshuva, who in the first part of their life committed many severe sins. Later they managed to rectify their life and become Shomer Habris.

The first thing a person needs is the will to stop. It is going to be a tough battle and a person must be truly committed to stop. A person should recognize that although his animalistic soul is still very attached to these Klipot, at times even controlling him. He himself knows that it is a terrible sin and he is petrified of committing it. He must have the will to want to be Shomer Habris. If he was given an easy way to do it, he would go there immediately. Now that there is no easy way to remain pure, he commits himself to fight with all his power.

There is only one way to reach this will, that is to read as much as he can about the severity of these sins and the damage that it causes. Even though this topic is ignored by Western Society, it does not excuse one from researching this topic.

Although there is only a small amount of information on this web site (www.briskodesh.org), one should begin with this. There is also a list of Sefarim that deal with this topic. A person should try his hardest to study as many of them as he can.

The Zohar compares this world to a churning ocean and the body of a man to a ship in the sea. Therefore, man requires knowledge in order to guide himself on a straight course, avoiding mishap and losing his way. The ocean of life roars fearfully and continuously. The winds of challenge blow and the negative impulse rips about like a tornado with unimaginable force. All of life comprises great and endless tests, which can easily capsize the ship and sink it into the murky, nethermost depths.

Yirat Shamayim and the study of Mussar will prevent the body from sinking into the miry depths of desire and corrupt character traits.
(Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, Ohr Yisrael)

Today’s Shmiras Ainayim Chizuk

Perform the Mitzvot With Joy! (Part 2)

GROWING WISE

“The creation of man was for his ultimate existence in the World to Come. Therefore, Hashem endowed him with a precious soul. With his soul he is able to serve Hashem and to receive his eternal reward in its right time and place. Therefore, the existence of the soul in this world is beloved and pleasant to the soul.” (Mesilat Yesharim, Man’s Duty in his World).

Each word of study, each second of contemplation and each effort we make to control our eyes will uplift and sanctify us. There is no greater joy than attaining holiness and purity!

May Hashem bless our efforts to master our eyes. May our collective effort to serve Hashem awaken great mercy in Heaven, so that we merit seeing the redemption of Klal Yisrael and the restoration of the Shechinah to the Kodesh HaKadashim.

“May Yisrael rejoice in its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.” (Tehillim 149:2)

Practical Application

“Perform the Mitzvot with Joy”

After reading Windows of the Soul, the importance of mastering my eyes has become very clear – and attainable. Baruch HaShem, I have made a lot of progress. I like this idea about forming a class and a discussion group. I could use the support and it will strengthen my friends, as well. I spoke to my Rabbi about it and he is going to start a class in Shmirat Einayim next Thursday evening. We already have three people who want to attend.

I used to think that it was impossible to control my eyes. But now that I learn and practice the Torah’s wisdom of Shmirat Einayim, I am a different person. I want to share my new perspective with the community. This class is going to encourage us – and heal our souls.
